EXPANSION OF BRACKETS
TIP: When doing these sort of problems, remember three things:
a) Obtain
the correct number of terms (double check to avoid this mistake)
b) Be careful with
negative numbers (e.g. know that - multiplied by - makes +)
c) Know how to multiply indicies e.g. xa multiplied by xb
= xa+b.
e.g. (4x - 3) (2x - 6) = 8x2 - 24x - 6x + 18 = 8x2 - 30x + 18
Expand all of the following and simplify as far as possible:
| 1. (2 - x) (4 - x) |
|
2. (2x - 1) (3x + 2)
|
| 3. (3x - 4y)2 |
| 4. (2 - 5x) (3 - x) |
| 5. (2a - 4b) (a + 2b) |
| 6. (x2 - 2x)2 |
| 7. (4x2y3)2 |
| 8. (x + y)2 |
